As part of our mission to make rugby safer by reducing player head injury, the Nick Tooth Foundation partnered with Rugby Australia to implement the Blue Card concussion management tool.
In collaboration with the Ian Tucker Foundation, we supported Rugby Australia on the nationwide rollout of its concussion management program, which incorporates the blue card concussion management system. The blue card was trialled at Toothy Tens in before being rolled out nationally in 2018.
The blue card gives a referee the ability to send a player off if they are showing signs of concussion. It triggers a series of steps, including a concussion assessment and recovery program, before the player is cleared to return to play.
